
The Kathakali Physical Training Program for the 2022 and 2024 Acting Department batches at KRNNIVSA was conducted under the expert guidance of Shri. Kalamandalam Bhagyanath. Held from January 15th to February 1st, 2025, and February 10th to February 19th, 2025, the sessions focused on enhancing students’ physical conditioning, agility, and expressiveness.
The training covered essential Kathakali techniques, including Kaladavukal (footwork), Arayiruthal (posture), Kai Veeshalukal (hand gestures), Chattangal (precision exercises), and Navarasas (facial expressions). Students gained improved strength, endurance, movement precision, and expressive skills.
Led by Shri. Bhagyanath, a renowned Kathakali artist, the program enriched students’ physical and artistic capabilities. Its success highlights the importance of integrating traditional training into modern acting education, paving the way for future initiatives.

"DINOSAUR'S EGG" Wins K. R. Monahan Memorial Documentary Award
The eighth K. R. Mohanan Memorial Documentary Award, organized by Insight the Creative Group, was awarded to the documentary "DINOSAUR'S EGG", directed by Sruthil Mathew 2019 batch direction and script writing department student of KRNNIVSA.
The award includes a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, a trophy designed by sculptor Pramod Palliyil, and a certificate.
The jury, comprising film critic Dr. C. S. Venkateswaran, documentary filmmaker K. R. Manoj, and film activist P. Premachandran..
The festival, held at the Golden Jubilee Hall of Palakkad Lions School from 9 AM, featured twelve competitive documentaries and a non-competitive documentary, which where screened before a packed audience and followed by discussions.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Insight President K. R. Chetthallur, followed by the jury's evaluation and the distribution of awards.
Eminent film personalities, including Jerry Amaldev, M. P. Sukumaran Nair, Dr. C. S. Venkateswaran, K. R. Manoj, P. Premachandran, Festival Director K. V. Vincent, and C. K. Ramakrishnan, spoke at the event.
As part of the festival, "Mohana Smriti", a tribute to K. R. Mohanan, was also held. Manikoth Madhavdev delivered the welcome address, and Methil Komalankutty gave the vote of thanks.


Gifted Students Visit K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science & Arts
On January 18, 2025, the K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science & Arts warmly welcomed 50 students and accompanying teachers from the Gifted Children Program under the General Education Department, Kottayam sub-district. This special visit aimed to provide these exceptional students with insights into the latest developments in science and technology, aligning with their keen interest in these fields.
The institute organized interactive sessions and demonstrations, making the visit both educational and engaging. Faculty members from various departments collaborated to ensure a smooth experience, with Shri. Leenus from the Direction department coordinating the sessions.

Jeethu Mandal In conversation with editing students

The Acting Department conducted an acting lecture demonstration on Kathakali for the 2024 batch as part of the common course program on January 15, 2025. Dr. Ettumanoor P. Kannan explored Natyasastra principles, fourfold acting techniques, Navarasas, and storytelling. Live demonstrations and discussions enriched students’ understanding of classical theatre, abhinaya, and symbolism, fostering deeper engagement with traditional and contemporary performance practices.



Exclusive Workshop on Sync Sound and ADR for 2022 Batch Acting Students
A comprehensive five-day workshop on Sync Sound and ADR was successfully conducted for the 2022 batch acting students from January 14th to 18th. Renowned expert Shri. Vinod Kumar CS, with his vast experience in the field, led this intensive workshop, providing students with hands-on experience and expert guidance.
The workshop aimed to equip students with a deep understanding of sync sound and ADR techniques, enabling them to enhance their performance and deliver high-quality voice outputs.
The workshop covered voice and speech reading exercises to develop clarity and precision, techniques for achieving emotional clarity and depth in voice acting, and creative voice acting methods to bring characters to life. Practical sessions on sync sound and ADR recording were also conducted, providing students with hands-on experience. Shri. Vinod Kumar CS offered personalized feedback and guidance to each student.
By the end of the workshop, students gained valuable insights and practical skills in sync sound and ADR, enabling them to deliver high-quality voice performances with precision and emotional depth. They also understood the technical aspects of sync sound and ADR recording and learned to apply creative voice acting techniques to enhance their performances.
This specialized workshop provided students with a unique opportunity to refine their skills and gain hands-on experience in sync sound and ADR, preparing them for successful careers in the film and entertainment industry.



The 2022 batch editing students of KRNNIVSA had the privilege of attending an insightful documentary workshop led by renowned filmmaker Pankaj Rishi Kumar during their fourth semester. An alumnus of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pankaj has been a prominent figure in the documentary filmmaking world for over 26 years.
His critically acclaimed film Janani’s Juliet (2019) was selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars, earning recognition both nationally and internationally. With screenings at major film festivals across the globe, his body of work continues to influence and inspire filmmakers worldwide.
This workshop provided students with a unique opportunity to learn the art and nuances of documentary filmmaking from a seasoned expert, enriching their understanding of storytelling, editing techniques, and cinematic perspectives.



We are thrilled to celebrate Shri Jyothish MG, our Associate professor in Acting Department, for being selected as a pedagogue at the International Festival of Theatre Schools 2025 (Feb 3-8). With over 20 years in theatre, He has directed 40+ acclaimed productions like Macbeth , Siddhartha and lady from the sea, showcased globally at festivals in Brisbane, Avignon, and Edinburgh. His accolades include the Sanskrit Foundation National Award and Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards. A dedicated teacher and artist, Jyothish continues to inspire. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

Master in Residence with Tigmanshu Dhulia: A Journey into Filmmaking Excellence
KRNNVSA recently hosted a five-day Master in Residence programme with the acclaimed filmmaker and actor, Tigmanshu Dhulia. The programme was jointly organized by Acting and Direction Departments offered a unique opportunity to learn from Dhulia's extensive experience in the film industry for acting and Direction students.
Tigmanshu Dhulia is a renowned filmmaker, actor, and writer, known for his critically acclaimed films like 'Paan Singh Tomar', 'Haasil', and 'Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster'. His body of work showcases his unique storytelling style and his ability to bring complex characters to life.



Shri. Namshad S, a 2014 batch alumnus of KRNNIVSA, has been awarded the Best Sound Recordist Award in the Fiction category at the 2023 Kerala State Television Awards for his exceptional work in the film Since Forever.
The institute takes immense pride in Namshad’s success, celebrating this milestone as a testament to its commitment to fostering talent and excellence in the creative arts.


Tigmanshu Dhulia, the highly respected and acclaimed film maker- dialogue writer, Director, Actor, Screenwriter, Casting director reached K.R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science & Arts as part of the "Masters in Residence" programme. He will be with the students and the faculty member of the Institute during this week and share his ideas, expertize and experience. "Masters in Residence" is the idea of bringing eminent personalities in the field of art, literature and other cultural forms to get a wider perspective and exposure to the students of the Institute. Shri. Saeed Akhtar Mirza, the Chairman of the Institute and Shri.Jijoy P R, the Director received Shri. Tigmanshu Dhulia to the Institute.



Filmmaker and Chairman of KRNNIVSA Shri: Saeed Akhtar Mirza launched Remembering Kumar Shahani, a tribute book published by chalachitraacademy and edited by Shri: M R Rajan, at the 29th International Film Festival of Kerala. The book was handed over to poetess Smt: Rosemary during the event at Nila Theatre.
Shri: Saeed Akhtar Mirza celebrated Shahani’s profound ability to understand life through cinema, calling him a filmmaker whose radiant smile was mirrored in his work. Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Secretary Shri: C Ajoy and editor Shri: M R Rajan also graced the occasion.






Renowned actor and TV professional, Shri. Murali Menon, led an engaging workshop on TV acting and anchoring. Students gained hands-on experience in:
Physical exercises for screen presence and confidence
Voice training for effective tone, pitch, and modulation
Teleprompter training for real-time TV anchoring experience
TV acting .
Interactive sessions and practical exercises helped students enhance their skills and gain confidence. The workshop was a huge success, equipping students with the essential skills to excel in the television industry.






The 2-3 day Kalari sessions, conducted by Shri. Ajith Kumar Gurukkal, a seasoned practitioner with 35 years of experience, immersed students from the 2022 and 2024 batches in the fundamentals of Kalari, a traditional martial art form from Kerala, India. Through rigorous training, students mastered various techniques, including warm-up exercises, leg exercises, body adaptability exercises, Vadivukal (Kalari postures), and basic combat techniques, ultimately enhancing their physical and mental abilities and preparing a ground for acting by creating immense awareness about body and energy levels



Shri Renjith Kuzhur, Associate Professor of Editing at KRNNIVSA, along with five talented students, represented the institute at the prestigious 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
Their participation highlights KRNNIVSA's commitment to fostering cinematic excellence and providing students with invaluable exposure to the global film industry. The event served as a platform for creative minds to engage with industry leaders, showcase innovative storytelling, and embrace the magic of cinema.

'Karinthalakootam' at the Orientation Programme Final Day
The final day of the orientation programme culminated in a mesmerizing performance by Karinthalakootam, the renowned folk band from Kerala. The energy was palpable as the students, faculty, and staff gathered to experience the rich cultural heritage of Kerala.
From the opening notes, Karinthalakootam had the audience entranced. The band's infectious rhythms and melodies transported the crowd to the lush landscapes and vibrant traditions of Kerala. The students, in particular, were completely swept up in the performance, dancing with abandon and singing along to the lyrics.
The performance intensity was high throughout, with the band delivering a passionate and nuanced set. The lead vocalist's powerful voice soared as he sang about Kerala's past history and resistance, paying tribute to the struggles and triumphs of the state's people.
A highlight of the performance was the band's heartfelt tribute to folk singers and social reformers like Poykayil Appachan. The song was a poignant reminder of the enduring power of music to inspire social change and promote cultural heritage.
Throughout the performance, Karinthalakootam demonstrated their mastery of traditional Kerala folk music, while also showcasing their innovative spirit and creativity. The band's energy was infectious, and their passion for their craft was evident in every note they played.






"Women's Perspective in Cinema" by Dr. Asha Achi Joseph
The session, led by the insightful Dr. Asha Achi Joseph, offered a nuanced exploration of women's perspectives in cinema. With her expertise in film studies and feminist theory, Dr.Asha Joseph presented a comprehensive analysis of the representation of women in films.

National Award-winning cinematographer Savita Singh mentored the 2019 batch of cinematography students during their final-year Master Workshop, which involved an intensive five-day, day-and-night shoot across various locations in Kottayam. This transformative workshop saw the active participation of eminent actress Athira Patel, KRNNIVSA’s 2022 Batch acting student Abhishek Siva, and the institute’s director, Shri Jijoy P. R., who performed in the short film created during the session. Students gained immensely from Savita Singh's expertise and mentorship throughout the experience. Additionally, KRNNIVSA alumnus Shri Harold contributed to the workshop, further enhancing the learning environment.

The KRNNIVSA Audiography department held an inspiring orientation program for its students from September 18th to 22nd, 2024, led by Shri Issac Newton, Assistant Professor of Sound Recording at FTII Pune. This creatively charged program provided audiography students with a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and refine their skills under his expert guidance, establishing a solid foundation for their craft. During this time, Shri Issac Newton also engaged with the 2022 batch students, adding further value to the experience.



Renowned production designer Ms. Rupali Gatti from Mumbai, known for her exceptional work as a concept artist in the big-budget blockbuster Baahubali and several Oscar-nominated and National Award-winning films, conducted a combined class session for students from six departments at KRNNIVSA. The session was both highly productive and informative, providing the students with valuable insights and knowledge that greatly enriched their learning experience.

Department of Acting had conducted a workshop interaction with a renowned artist from spain Ana Mirtha, on September 9th,who is an exponent in different forms of Theatre and movement as well as physical theatre. She is also an actress as well as a trainer with immense experience of teaching in different universities around the world, as well . The interaction was based on Lecoq technique which is called neutral mask and students had a fantastic experience of learning and performing with the neutral mask.

The session was conducted by eminent mime artist Mr. Arusum Madhusudan a recipient of the prestigious Bismillah khan award. Madhusudan had travelled far and wide around the globe to teach as well as learn mime from masters of mime art.Madusudan is also part of Telugu film industry as an actor.

The panel included eminent sound designer and four-time National Award winner Mr. Biswadeep Chatterji as the Audiography expert; renowned cinematographer Shri Santhosh Thundiyil as the external expert for the Cinematography department; Shri Mandar Digrajkar, Associate Professor and Head of the Animation and VFX Department at FTII Pune; esteemed National Award-winning editor Ms. Priya Krishnaswami; and Shri Tuhinabha Majumdar, former Head of the Screenplay Writing and Direction Department at FTII and now a Professor at the Jindal School of Journalism and Communication. Also present were Screen Acting department Professor and Head of Department at FTII, Shri Siddharth Sastha, who is also a film director, and National Award-winning editor Mrs. Bina Paul. Leading this distinguished team were Shri Sayeed Akhtar Mirza, the eminent scriptwriter and film director serving as Chairman of the Institute, and Shri Jijoy P. R., Director of K. R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts, along with Shri Anilkumar V. S., Additional Secretary of the Higher Education Department of the Kerala government, and Smt. Sindu P. K. On November 4, 2024, KRNNIVSA had the privilege of hosting a thought-provoking lecture by Subodh Kerkar, an acclaimed artist whose work spans installations, sculptures, multimedia, performances, paintings, and more.
Subodh Kerkar, who left his medical career in 1990 to pursue his true passion for art, shared insights into his unique practice. His creations, often washed by the ocean, offer powerful commentaries on social, political, and religious issues, narrating histories through contemporary visual idioms.
The lecture was graced by the presence of our Chairman Shri Saeed Akhtar Mirza, Director Shri Jijoy P.R., eminent filmmaker Anand Menon, along with students and faculty, all of whom were deeply inspired by the session.
Subodh Kerkar is also the founding director of the Museum of Goa and holds the Mario Miranda Chair for Arts at Goa University. His work continues to push boundaries, making art a powerful voice for change.

On 08th November 2024, KR Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts was graced by a mesmerizing Qawwali Sufi Music performance by the renowned Rampur Warsi Brothers. The soulful tunes filled the air, taking the audience on a spiritual journey through music and mysticism.
Organized in association with SPICMACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth), this event was a beautiful blend of tradition, culture, and art, offering a unique experience for both students and the public.

28th Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival in Prague, Czech Republic,

Congratulations to our 4 KRNNIVSA Students Selected for the Film Preservation & Restoration Workshop India 2024!
We’re thrilled to announce that four talented students from KRNNIVSA have been selected to attend the prestigious 9th Film Preservation & Restoration Workshop India (FPRWI 2024), taking place from November 7-14, 2024, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. This significant training program, hosted by the Film Heritage Foundation in collaboration with the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), will provide invaluable hands-on learning experiences in film preservation and restoration.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) and the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy for their generous support and the ₹50,000 scholarship awarded to each student. Their support enables our students to take part in this unique opportunity to contribute to film heritage and preservation on a global stage.

Anurag Kashyap, the celebrated Filmmaker arrives in K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts, Kottayam, Kerala:
Shri Anurag Kashyap the iconic filmmaker from Mumbai is in Kerala for a ten days academic program at K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts. The celebrated Filmmaker is the MASTER IN RESIDENCE for the year 2024. He would be interacting with the students and guiding them for their projects.
Shri Anurag Kashyap arrived in Kerala yesterday and started his academic sessions from the morning of 30th July, 2024. He will spend the next 10 days in campus among the students.
Anurag Kashyap loves Malayalam cinema and filmmakers from Kerala. And so he was very keen to come and spend time in the state film school when this idea was suggested to him by the Chairman Shri Saeed Mirza. He expressed extreme pleasure to be among the next generation filmmakers from Kerala.

Acting Department had organized a demonstration cum interaction session on 'An introduction to Krav Maga' ( 02-07-24) an Israeli defense combat fight system . The session was conducted by Mr.Shijin Jose who is an expert in martial art. The session addressed the importance of this system for film actors related to body roll and movement, awareness, situational awareness, instinctual response etc. Students were able to get a basic understanding on this rare combat fight system.
Enchanting journey of metamorphosing ideas into Digital Work of Art-
The Editing Department conducted a five-day workshop on New Media, led by
Mr. Biju Kurup, a senior faculty member of NID Ahmedabad. The workshop enhanced the magical alchemy of creativity and technology, where visions blossomed into immersive digital experiences. The editing students had the opportunity to create a magical landscape using multidisciplinary art forms.

Synergy of body and imagination – Understanding Voice
An interactive session to culminate voice acting through the synergy of body and imagination for Semester III acting students.
Muscle synergy theory suggests that the central nervous system produces a small number of signals that pass through a network that distributes combinations of these signals to the muscles. Though these synergies are rather stable over time, some variability is present.
Body-Mind- Sound Synergy is a powerful process that gives you a space to tune in to the language of your body. Using breathwork, subtle movement and vocal toning to connect to body and voice so that to create clarity about what one want, build confidence and inspire empowered action – as an actor.
The workshop explore different techniques in vocal training. It will also try to uncover the secrets of improved body awareness and posture to elevate the vocal performance of actors an enriching journey into the synergy between mind, body, and voice also through the different modes of voice training.
The interaction session is conducted by Mr .Joy Fernadez who is a nationally well known voice and speech trainer for film actors as well as theatre actors











The Animation Department at the K R Narayanan Film Institute recently organized a comprehensive workshop on Acting for Animation, led by the distinguished Mr. Bilas Chandrahasan Nair. This workshop provided students with an invaluable opportunity to refine their performance skills, emphasizing authentic character development, detailed scene analysis, animal behavior acting, and techniques for on-camera presence. Spanning five days, this intensive program significantly enhanced the participants' knowledge and deepened their enthusiasm for the art of Acting for Animation, contributing to their overall professional growth in the field.

students of Script Writing & Direction Semester 5.
The workshop was part of the Semester 5 Academic programme of Film
Direction and MENTORING/MASTER WORKSHOP for their diploma project.
The objective of the workshop was the following; To get more experience and the
students to enable them to discover the possibility of how to finalize the diploma
project.
General idea about Diploma Mentoring . To help the students to understand the
goals and vision of the story and script. Encourage the students to explore
deeper themes and subtext within their scripts. Individual discussions about
each diploma scripts of the 5th semester students. Discuss the art of writing
authentic dialogue that reveals character traitsand advances the plot.

students to enable them to discover the possibility of how to finalize the diploma
project.
It was very helpful for the students , to guide in creating well-defined characters
with distinct personalities, motivations and conflicts. And encourage them to
revise and refine their work. Encourage the students to explore deeper themes
and subtext within their scripts. The students of the 5th semester participate in
these sessions got practical for how to make shooting scripts for a diploma film ,
and help the students to understand the goals and vision of the story and script.

This intensive lecture was aimed to equip 5th semester editing students with the skills to craft compelling dissertations."






Mastering the art of storytelling and understanding the techniques of pacing and timing to create powerful ad films. The three-day workshop on ad film editing, conducted by the renowned and award-winning filmmaker Mr. VK Prakash.



Crafting Visual Symphonies: Mastering the Art of Music Video Editing
Past two enriching days, the Editing Department hosted a transformative workshop on music video editing led by the acclaimed film editor and music video director, Mr. Suhail Backer. Students delved deep into the structural and thematic elements of music videos, gaining valuable insights into popular music's intricate relationship with audience engagement and narrative potential.



Sound Design workshop by Madhu Apsara- 02-06-2024 to 06-06-2024 for Audiography 2022 batch

The 5 day workshop conducted by Madhu Apsara from 2 nd to 6 th June 2024 for the Audiography students was an eye opener of sorts. The students were taken on an interesting journey into the nuances of sound design. It was no doubt a rare experience for the students getting to interact with a renowned sound designer having vast experience in executing sound design for a wide range of films. In addition to playi ng the role of sound designer, Madhu Apsara also had a long association with the renowned film maker Mani Kaul. Madhu shared with the students his experience working with Mani Kaul taking the students on an altogether different journey. As part of the workshop film clippings from various films were shown and the students got to know the approach to sound design by different categories of film makers. To apply what had been picked up during the workshop, a one day shoot based on a script prepared by the students was executed . It was an exciting experience especially for the Audiography students, practicing sound editing and design. The cpompleted film was screened for everyone on the last day of the workshop.



Shri Chandy Oommen, Honourable MLA, has sanctioned 1 crore (₹1,00,00,000) for the construction of a swimming pool in memory of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at KR Narayanan Film Institute in Akalakunnam Panchayat. The order is to be handed over to the Director, Shri Jijoy P R, of KR Narayanan Film Institute.

ADAPTATION WORKSHOP of Film Direction
Well known Film Director Shyam Prasad took 3 days work shop for the students of Script Writing & Direction Semester 3 & 5 from 18th April, 2024 to 20th April, 2024.
The workshop was part of the Semester 3 & 5 Academic programme on Adaptation Workshop of Film Direction.
The objective of the workshop was the following; To introduce students to enable them to discover the possibility of adapting stories from a novel to cinema.
The contents were divided into 3 days’ workshop in the following manner.
Introduction to the process of adapting a text for cinema. Translating from original work of cinematic presentation.Analysis of Specific stories chosen by students. Storyline , Dialogue & Action and discussion of case studies.
The workshop had lecture sessions, conversations and screenings. One week before the ressoursee person shared 3 texts which he had used for adapting to the screen. Students were asked to come to the class after reading those novels.
The class and lessons plans were based on those texts. The films which he had made on these novels were screened in the class. Intense discussions were held on eavh text book and the adapted films.
A short story by M T Vasudevan Nair was taken up and discussed in the class.And the process of adapting from literature was explained to all.






Unlocking the magic of Editing.
The eminent film editor Ms. Monisha Baldawa conducted a five-day workshop for 3rd semester editing students from 29th April to 3rd of May. In this workshop, the students went through the art and science of transforming raw footage into compelling narratives. They have experienced the secrets of pacing, rhythm, and visual language that bring movies to life.

Adaptation workshop For the KRNNIVSA Students from Eminent Film director Shri. Shyamaprasad


Acting Department had coordinated a combined workshop on make up from April 15th to 17th . The workshop mainly focused on different learning related to make up which was beneficial for students especially Acting, Direction and Cinematography. From history of make up the sessions addressed the tonal variations of makeup on screen related to focal length, light , aperture setting etc in a technical manner. It focused on character make up, special effect make, old age make up and the latest explorations in Prosthetics make up. In short it was quite an enriching and insightful experience for students of different disciplines making them aware about the immense possibilities they could use as a film maker.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Mohan Mudaliyar a well experienced artist and teacher who had worked in many regional films and also trained from Hollywood with an immense experience of 40 years in the field.

Acting Department KRINNVSA is conducting an interactive physical training session for acting students from March 15th to 20th. The session is lead by Sri . Shashadhar Acharya who is a Chhau dance exponent from Saraikela, Jharkhand, India. In 2020, he received the Padma Shri honour from the Government of India for his contribution in the field of Arts. Shashadar acharya had conducted workshops all over India as well as many countries abroad.
The intention of the interaction is to enrich the the possibility of movement, inner energy levels and body -mind coordination which will be highly beneficial for the acting students

U.S. Consulate conducts workshop for South Indian scriptwriters.
A five-day workshop on screenwriting, jointly organised by the US Consulate General in Chennai and the Global Media Makers (GMM), for ten emerging women scriptwriters from South India, concluded in Alappuzha. 2 students miss Pushpa and Miss meghna from KRNNIVSA also were participated in the workhop
The workshop was led by US and Indian filmmaker mentors, including Ruth Atkinson, Pamela Ribon and GMM Fellow Triparna Banerjee, as part of the ‘screenwriting retreat’ organised for the emerging women scriptwriters from February 10-14, the US Consulate General in Chennai
Popular Indian filmmakers Mahesh Narayanan, Indu Lakshmi, Sudha Padmaja Francis and GMM Fellow Christo Tomy shared valuable insights from their personal experiences
Award-winning film editor Bina Paul, former artistic director of the International Film Festival of Kerala, collaborated with Film Independent to design the workshop and shortlist the participants.

Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts initiated a three-day workshop focusing on character designing for animation pre-production. Renowned animator and character designer Sri Radhakrishnan P( Rakesh ) is leading the workshop, providing expert training to students in creating appealing characters for both children and adults.

A master class by Shri Reghunath Palery, the well-known Malayalam writer of Novels, Short Stories and Screenplays is being organised at K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science & Arts from Monday, 13th November, 2023.
In the starting session of the Masterclass, Shri Reghunath Palery gave detailed insights as to how stories emerge from daily life. He took the students through a personal journey of his own life illustrating how incidents and events from life become inspirational seed ideas for fictional stories. Through engaging interactions, he further plans to deconstruct the process that enables him to create a story. And the process as to how a story becomes a film script. He plans to elaborate upon the methodology of story writing and character design, colouring it with various examples from literary and cinematic work.
The five-day workshop is meant to emphasize on the fundamental process of screenwriting. He will share his thoughts about the history, traditions, trends and philosophies dominant in the screenwriting craft, on how a film emerges from thoughts of a writer. Through the five days he will take the students through the development of idea into a story and its treatment. This will be followed by intensive class on Characterisation and development of setting and arranging part of the elements in the narrative. On the third day the students will be guided on various aspects of screenplay. They will write a scene incorporating all elements. The concluding phase of workshop will dwell on mise-en-scene. The workshop is fully experiential and exercise based.

A Master Class by celebrated Malayalam Film Director Shri Dileesh Pothen was organised on Wednesday, 18th October, 2023 at KRN campus.
In the intensive interactive session given to the students of KRNNIVSA Shri Dileesh Pothen explained his Directorial Process from inspiration to the final screen.
The final session was a script realization session with the direction department students, where he took a script in detail and discussed his approach to direction.
His film JOJI was screened in the evening and a post screening discussion was also held.

A master class by P F Mathews, the well-known Malayalam writer of Novels, Short Stories and Screenplays was organised at K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science & Arts on Monday, 16th October, 2023.
In the first session of the Masterclass titled ‘Story Significance” P.F.Mathews, deconstructed the process that enables him to create a story. He enlightened the students’ giving insights to the methodology of story writing and character design, colouring it with various examples from literary and cinematic works.
Emphasizing on the fundamental aspects of screenwriting, he pointed out how majority of the Malayalam screenplays exist as only literary works, without utilising the possibilities of the cinematic medium. He shared his thoughts about the history, traditions, trends and philosophies dominant in the screenwriting craft, on how a film can be political without sacrificing its artistic integrity, also daring to point out the feudalistic and patriarchal biases in much revered Malayalam films like Nirmalyam. (M.T. Vasudevan Nair, 1973). Then he moved on to a detailed analysis of the aesthetic approaches of filmmakers Yasujiro Ozu and Krzysztof Kieslowski.
The afternoon session was a detailed script-to-screen study of select scenes of Kieslowski’s Three Colours Blue (1993). The final session consisted of a personal interaction of the students and teachers of the institute with the guest, where he shared his own experiences in the Malayalam film industry citing clear instances from his work. He maintained how cinema was essentially a director’s craft, where the screenwriter is only a collaborator in shaping the Director’s vision. The Masterclass concluded with the screening of the film Ee.Ma.Yau, written by P.F.Mathews and directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery.

"Samagra Shiksha Keralam" School Film Festival 2023-2024, organized by Karukachal BRC in collaboration with K. R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts, took place on October 12, 2023, at the Institute Preview Theatre. The event was inaugurated by Director Jijoy P. R, and Dean Vinod Sukumaran enlightened the young participants about the world of cinema. Associate Professor Ranjith chaired an open forum discussing the short films presented by BRC. In addition to this, students from the institute showcased their films for the children. An engaging campus tour was conducted to introduce the children to the art of filmmaking and enhance their knowledge across various academic departments.

The four day surround sound workshop was meant to introduce the students to the technology and aesthetics of surround sound. Surround sound immerses the audience into the scene of action. The workshop conducted by Ajith Abraham George was an elevating experience for the students. The lessons learnt from the workshop would come in handy when the students embark on the 5.1 surround sound mix of their diploma projects.
